Description

Are you ready to produce your first masterpiece for our not-so-famous toy company?

ToiToi

Introduction

ToiToi is a toy company. They have a design idea and they are looking for creative designers to submit projects. Read the project details.

Milk

Milk Carton That Topples

Project Title

Milk Carton That Topples

Duration

After the project has been approved, ready for marketing within 16 months; ready for production within 18 months

DETAILS

You will create a toy in the form of an ordinary milk cartoon. This milk carton will either hop or topple some time after it has been placed on a table or a similar flat surface. The aim is that the owner of this toy will surprise his/her friends.

Topple

  • From outside, the milk carton will look completely ordinary. There will be no traces of a mechanism or anything else.
  • There will be no milk inside the milk carton. You can place whatever mechanism you design into it. However,
    • you cannot use any flammable or harmful material,
    • you cannot use any live animals.
  • The mechanism should be designed in such a way that it can be used again and again.
  • Preferably, the mechanism should be designed in such a way that the child can assemble the mechanism on his/her own (therefore, the simpler the better), but this is not a requirement.
  • You can use an ordinary milk carton or you can use one which is made of, for example, plastic or a similar lightweight but strong material.
  • The total weight (milk carton + the mechanism) should not exceed the weight of a full milk carton.

Group Work

You will design and build a prototype for this project in a group. After you design your project, you will (for the rest of this course):

  1. submit your project to ToiToi by means of a formal proposal; once your proposal has been accepted, you will

  2. work in your group and finalise the details, make corrections and amendments on your initial project,

  3. send regular progress reports to the company officials,

  4. complete the project and build a prototype,

  5. invite company officials - especially the marketing department staff - to a meeting,

  6. promote your project within the institution by means of a poster you will design,

  7. and give a group presentation
